Choosing the right law school is not only a crucial choice within your law career, but also one of your first. Having a game plan going into your search is a great place to start and can mean the difference between finding the perfect fit for you or not. Here are three considerations to help you find your dream school.
Location, location, location
What makes or breaks a law school is location. Location is such a big deciding factor because the location of your school could potentially be the city you work in upon graduation, so it would be great if you loved the city or town you were in. Another variable that correlates with location is the kind of activities you like to do. For example, if you are an avid snowboarder but choose to go to a law school in the deep south, that school may not be the best for you, not because of academics but rather personal fit.
Cost is inevitably one of the first questions every incoming college student asks while looking at prospective schools, and law school is no different. Much like your undergraduate college search, it is an excellent idea to weigh pros and cons of law school costs. Being cost-oriented in your law school search could mean the difference between minimal student loans and massive amounts of debt.
Even though cost is an important factor in school selection, sometimes it’s the name and reputation that outweigh the price tag. There is a lot to be said for big names like Yale and Harvard. They are tried and true institutions that everybody knows, especially future employers and clients.
With these considerations in mind you have started down the path towards your future career in law. Congratulations and good luck!
